Acabaram sendo eliminados na primeira fase, mas foram bem na Sul-Americana, chegando ao terceiro lugar. O Luis Díaz foi um dos destaques, apesar de não ser titular absoluto – relembrou o treinador.

Outro detalhe acrescentado por Jair Ventura no contato com a reportagem foi que o momento em que ele assumiu o Corinthians não era de janela de transferências ativa, o que impossibilitaria a chegada de Luis Díaz ou qualquer outro jogador, ainda que oferecido.

– A gente (comissão técnica) acompanhou ele (Luis Díaz), como acompanhou no Porto-POR. A janela estava fechada, não tinha como eu reprovar o nome – justificou Ventura.

One player who they hold a serious interest in is Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes. The 22-year-old is a player Amorim knows well from his time at Sporting CP, and the Portuguese is keen on reuniting with the speedster at Old Trafford, as he looks to solve United’s left wing-back issue.

United have been in talks with Mendes over a possible switch, and a new report has stated that they want to accelerate those talks, as Real Madrid and Manchester City are also interested in a move.

As well as looking at Mendes, the Premier League giants are also seriously considering moving for striker Jonathan David after being offered the chance to sign him. David is a free agent in the summer, and his services were offered to United for when his deal expires. The Red Devils are said to be considering a move for the forward but face competition from the likes of Newcastle, Liverpool and Juventus.

The transfer news doesn’t stop there for Amorim’s side, as Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester United have held talks over the signing of Nene Dorgeles from RB Salzburg, and a move could happen this month.

The 22-year-old has been on the books of the Austrian side since January 2021, when he joined from Malian outfit Guidars FC. Dorgeles has enjoyed a few loan spells during his time with Salzburg, his last being a season-long loan deal at Belgian side KVC Westerlo, where he scored eight goals and provided four assists in 29 JPL games.

Since then, he has been a key player for Salzburg, scoring plenty of goals and providing several chances for his teammates. His performances in Austria and in Europe have now caught the attention of United, who are monitoring the attacker after adding him to their list of targets.

You’d think Ravindra Jadeja might not need that boost of confidence. You’d be wrong.Jadeja’s first Test hundred outside India, and especially because it was in England, is one that he will draw from. “I’m feeling really good, to do it outside India, especially in England to hit a hundred as a player is a really big thing,” he said. “I can really take some confidence in myself as a player from this, to score a hundred in England, in swinging conditions, so yeah it feels really good.”The innings was overshadowed by Rishabh Pant’s 111-ball 146 but was marked by a discipline and sense of game-management that spoke of the work of a proper batter. Which is precisely what James Anderson identified as a shift from previous encounters with Jadeja – and the pair have, of course, history.”In the past he was coming at 8, bat with the tail so he had to chance his arm a little bit,” Anderson said, “whereas now at 7 he can bat like a proper batter. He leaves really well and made it difficult for us.””In England you have play close to the body,” Jadeja added. “The ball swings here so if you look to play the cover- or square-drive there is a chance you can edge to the cordon. Although the Baggies are still without a permanent manager, they are still looking at how they can strengthen their squad in the January transfer window, with a bid accpeted for Isaiah Jones, and The Daily Mail report they have now made contact over a potential deal for a striker.

West Brom have now made an enquiry about the availability of Liverpool striker Lewis Koumas, who is currently on loan at fellow Championship side Stoke City. Koumas will be a familiar name to the Albion faithful, with enigmatic midfielder Jason Koumas, Lewis’ father, spending an impressive five years at The Hawthorns from 2002 to 2007.

A number of Championship clubs are interested in signing the forward, who they feel could give them the edge in the battle for promotion in the second half of the campaign, with Sheffield United and Watford also keen.

Jason Koumas was a fantastic servant to the Baggies, and his 19-year-old son is also showing signs he could go on to be a top player, having been lauded as an “absolutely clinical” striker by Wales U21 manager Matty Jones.

The Wales international has predominantly featured on the wing for Stoke this season, displaying his versatility, and he has emerged as a key player, bagging three goals in 25 Championship appearances.

Koumas’ move to Stoke is likely to have been a good learning curve for the youngster, and he could now be ready to take the next step by moving to a team in the upper echelons of the Championship table.
